12 Detox Water Recipes for Weight Loss

To this very day, a lot of people are still unsure about detox water recipes for weight loss. And, you know what? I don’t blame them. Honestly, science isn’t even sure about it either
But here’s the thing:
Detox water is literally just water mixed with tasty produce. Some might have you boil water and add a few pinches of seasoning and spices but fruits, leaves, and water — that’s essentially what this is.
If that’s the case, does detoxing make you lose weight?
If we’re strictly talking about detox water, yeah! Absolutely!
Honestly though, it might be because water’s simply good for you. We have an entire article just focusing on how to lose weight by drinking more water if you need it but in a nutshell, getting enough water everyday boosts your metabolism, helps you feel more full particularly when you drink it before meals, helps filter toxins away from your body by promoting the health of your kidneys, and helps with digestion.
Clearly, all those benefits can lead to weight loss!
I’m not dismissing the benefits of adding fruits and herbs to your water though. If anything, doing so adds flavor to your H2O and if that makes it easier to down at least a couple more glasses, that’s awesome!
The antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals you can possibly get from infusing your water with tasty produce, although very welcome, is just icing on the cake in my opinion.
Having said that, here are some of the best detox water recipes for weight loss that I found online. Scale the recipes up or down to fit your tumbler, infuser water bottle, or your pitcher.
12 Detox Water Recipes for Weight Loss

1. Lemon cucumber detox water
Let’s start with the basics — lemon and cucumber.
You see these types of detox waters are everywhere and I think it’s because they’re easy and delicious, not to mention how it might add some welcome nutrients to your everyday water. I will personally take this blend over most other detox concoctions with more ingredients.
Lemon, in particular, has polyphenols that may seep into your water along with its flavor. Per research, these same polyphenols might help with your weight.
2. Lemon and mint detox water
Continuing with the basics, the lemon, mint, and water combo is also one of the most popular detox water blends in the world. The lemon gives it the subtle sweet and sour flavor while mint leaves make your water taste, well… minty.
Slightly crushing the mint leaves with a spoon prior to adding them to your water helps them infuse more of that refreshing flavor faster. Plus, you might even help it release those oils that have been known for their antioxidant and bowel-soothing benefits.
3. Slimming detox water
For this recipe, you’ll be using lemon, lime, orange, cucumber, ginger, and mint. In my opinion, all these flavorful ingredients really come together and sort of pull you in to sip more water. That’s what it does to me, at  least.
Anyhow, this recipe comes from Spend With Pennies and the myriad of citrus fruits in this recipe can infuse your water with vitamin C which is probably the most popular antioxidant today. It also helps you absorb plant-based iron better.
4. Detox water for a flat belly
If you’ve been wondering: “what are the best detox water recipes to reduce belly fat?”
I’ve got to say, this might actually be one of them. The recipe from Brooke and Daron says you’ll need spring water (although, I think regular mineral water works just fine), grapefruit, cucumber, lemon, lime, and mint leaves.
Personally, I’m not that big of a fan of the taste of grapefruit, so I tend to put less than what’s recommended in the recipe. Nevertheless, the citric acid that seeps out of it and into your water can possibly help you rid your body of free radicals since it’s an antioxidant.
5. Strawberry detox water
Pickled Plum describes this as a “slimming and cleansing” detox water that’s so quick to whip up. I agree but to be fair, pretty much all detox waters take less than 10, maybe even 5 minutes to make.
Nonetheless, although she calls it “strawberry detox water”, this actually also has orange and mint. I like the combination because I think it gives water somewhat of a spring/summer kind of vibe.
They’re all synergistic, too. Mint is known for its digestive benefits, particularly when it comes to amplifying the absorption of nutrients (which both strawberries and oranges have a lot of).
6. Detox infused water
Cucumber, strawberries, lime, and mint — that’s all you’re going to need for The Harvest Kitchen’s version of infused water. If you were following, these same fruits and herbs are at the center of the previous recipes.
What I’m trying to say is that if you want to start making delicious and possibly nutritious infused water, it’s a good idea to have these ingredients (plus lemon) in your pantry.
7. Stress reduction detox water
Any time you’re stressed, whether it be physically, emotionally, mentally, or whatever, your body responds by releasing cortisol (better known as the stress hormone). This is normal and the levels should go back down once you’ve calmed yourself down, too.
But, if you’re constantly stressed, that’s when it becomes a problem.
Consistently elevated levels of stress (cortisol) can make you crave for food, leading to weight gain. That’s why a lot of people who’re constantly stressed tend to eat more and make unhealthy choices.
Having said that, this recipe from Paleo Grubs actually uses the same ingredients as the previous article — strawberries, cucumber, lime, and mint — just at different proportions. Personally, I like how this version has more strawberries because it might also mean more vitamin C to help fight the weight-gaining side effects of elevated cortisol. If you want more cucumber though, follow the previous recipe.
8. Body flush and detox water
Ladydee009 from KeyIngredient describes this as both tasty and good for your digestive system. I can’t argue with that. After all, that’s what infusing your water with produce is supposed to do.
Specifically though, she uses lemon, lime, cucumber, and a whole bunch of mint. That’s a refreshing combination to say the least.
9. Spa detox water
First of all, Diethood calls this her “spa detox water” because she got the inspiration to make it from her local spa. Apart from that, you probably won’t get any other spa-like benefits aside from feeling more relaxed and refreshed.
Having said that, you’re going to need a couple of grapefruits, tangerines (or oranges), cucumbers, and mint. Common ingredients, sure, but compared to most other detox water recipes for weight loss I’ve seen, this one’s literally packed to the brim with fruits and herbs! It’s probably more salad than infused water to be honest.
9. 3-ingredient ginger lemon water
This recipe from Minimalist Baker isn’t as simple as the previous recipes because it involves more than cutting up a few fruits into wedges and dumping them into a pitcher.
No, you’re going to have to boil water, juice a lemon, slice ginger, and then add turmeric, black pepper, and cayenne. It’s a legitimate, actual recipe is what I’m saying.
Nevertheless, it’s still easy to do. Plus, I’m actually confident that this drink will help you get healthier while losing weight. Turmeric, for example, is widely known for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties while the capsaicin in cayenne pepper has long been used to boost thermogenesis and metabolism while regulating appetite. Pretty great, huh?
10. Apple cider vinegar morning detox tea
Tasteaholics calls this a morning detox “tea” but isn’t tea just water infused with a bunch of herbs and other ingredients? Still sounds like detox water to me.
Putting the semantics aside, this recipe is actually pretty damn effective at promoting weight loss. You’re going to need lemon juice, honey, cinnamon, cayenne, warm water, and of course, apple cider vinegar (ACV).
Per research, consuming 15-30 ml (1-2 tbsp) of ACV everyday led to reduced weight, BMI, and waist circumference. Moreover, the same research observed lower triglyceride levels with ACV consumption, making it even healthier for you.
11. Pineapple infused water
I don’t know about you but I’ve been a big fan of pineapple since I was very little. Pineapples on chicken, pineapples on rice, pineapples on cake, pineapples on pizza, and yes, pineapples in water.
Now, I get that pineapple infused water isn’t the norm relative to lemons and cucumbers but trust me, it’s amazing. I even make sure to eat the pieces of diced pineapple that’s left at the bottom of the glass (and/or pitcher) just so I can get the most out of this delicious and nutritious fruit.
Oh, and speaking of nutritious, pineapple is loaded with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that’ll help flush out toxins. As a matter of fact, a study identifies pineapple as having one of the higher antioxidant levels among common fruits.

12. Blueberry orange water
Here’s another fruit that I don’t always see in detox waters. It’s a shame, really, because I think blueberries are one of the best tasting berries out there.
Anyhow, blueberries are amazing low calorie snacks at just less than 85 calories per cup. Packed with nutrients, too!
Now, adding this fruit to your water might not necessarily net you all those nutrients but it’ll definitely add flavor to your drink and that’s always a good thing. Also, if you actually wanted to have those nutrients, you always have the option to eat the blueberries instead.
The Peach Kitchen’s recipe combines blueberries with oranges. Check it out!
Conclusion:
Let me end this by circling back to what I said at the beginning:
I don’t know of any scientific evidence that proves the reported benefits of adding fruits and herbs to your water. However, that’s not to say it doesn’t have any effect whatsoever. I mean, after all, there’s plenty more about our world that we don’t know about.
What I do know is this:
Adding all these fresh fruits and herbs to my own water has made me want to drink more simply because it tastes better. That in itself is a healthy benefit that has propelled my personal weight loss journey and it could do the same to you.
Plus, if they seep out flavor, it’s highly likely that they leak out nutrients as well. Even if it’s minimal, I’ll take that over nothing any day of the week.
On that note, I really, really hope this was helpful. Now put on your shoes, head over to the farmer’s market, and go buy yourself some fruit!
Oh, and don’t forget to share these (and us) with your friends!
